When a young owl is abducted by an evil Owl army, he must escape with
newfound friends to seek out the legendary Guardians to stop the menace.

• Jim Sturgess as Soren the Barn Owl, the main protagonist. He is an owl who dreamed to be a Guardian. He was captured by the Pure Ones, along with Kludd. He eventually warns the Guardians of Ga'hoole of the Pure Ones' plans and helps to defeat them in battle.
• Geoffrey Rush as Ezylryb the Whiskered Screech Owl one of the Guardians and Weathering ryb (teacher) for the Guardians. Became Soren's mentor and was once known as Lyze of Kiel.
• Emily Barclay as Gylfie the Elf Owl. Soren's best friend who was also captured by the Pure Ones. She joines Soren on his journey to find the Guardians.
• Anthony LaPaglia as Twilight the Great Grey Owl. A huge owl who carries a lute and considers himself a bard. He is friends with Soren, Gylfie, and Digger.
• David Wenham as Digger the Burrowing Owl. An owl who loves owl jokes and tracking. He is friends with Soren, Gylfie and Twlight.
• Ryan Kwanten as Kludd the Barn Owl. A secondary antagonist. Soren's less-favored brother who joined the Pure Ones and became evil.
• Helen Mirren as Nyra the Barn Owl. A secondary antagonist. Nyra is the queen of the Pure Ones and Metalbeak's mate.
• Sam Neill as Allomere the Great Grey Owl. A Guardian and leader of the search-and-rescue squadron at the Great Tree, betrayed the other Guardians of Ga'hoole and sided with the Pure Ones.
• Hugo Weaving as Noctus the Barn Owl (Soren, Kludd, and Eglantine's father) and Grimble the Boreal Owl (an elderly owl who helps Soren and Gylfie escape from St. Aggies.)
• Joel Edgerton as Metalbeak the Sooty Owl, the main antagonist. Leader of the Pure Ones, Ezylryb's archenemy and Nyra's mate.
• Adrienne DeFaria as Eglantine the Barn Owl. Soren's baby sister.
• Miriam Margolyes as Mrs. Plithiver the blind snake, Soren's nest-maid snake.
• Richard Roxburgh as Boron the Snowy Owl. King of Ga'Hoole and leader of the Guardians.
• Deborra-Lee Furness as Barran the Snowy Owl. Queen of Ga'Hoole and Navigation ryb, Boron's mate.
• Abbie Cornish as Otulissa the Short-eared Owl. Know-it-all resident of the Great Gahoole Tree. Was a Spotted Owl in the books.
• Leigh Whannell as Jatt the Long-eared Owl. One of the owls who kidnapped Soren and Kludd, brother of Jutt.
• Angus Sampson as Jutt the Long-eared Owl. One of the owls who kidnapped Soren and Kludd, brother of Jatt.
• Bill Hunter as Bubo the Great Horned Owl. Blacksmith of the Guardians and ranking Parliament member.
• Sacha Horler as Strix Struma the Short-eared Owl. Combat ryb and ranking Parliament member. Was a Spotted Owl in the books.
• Essie Davis as Marella the Barn Owl. Soren, Kludd, and Eglantine's mother.
• Barry Otto as Echidna. A mystic who lives on the shore of the Sea of Hoolemere.
